Coalescence Separators from LOFT Anlagenbau und Beratung GmbH

The LOFT DPT coalescence separator in maintenance-friendly stainless steel construction.

Application Sectors:

Coalescence separators are used:

  • for removal of volatile hydrocarbons in distillate postpurification,
  • in cleaning of oil-polluted degreasing or flushing bath vessels and
  • for treatment of wastewaters polluted with oils or solvents.

The cleaned wastewaters are in most cases reused as recycled process water or in some applications disposed of in the municipal sewer system.

Operational Description of Coalescent Separator:

LOFT DPT coalescent separators operate by gravitational separation, the lightweight phase collecting in coalescent bodies or droplets which float on the surface. This phase or droplets are skimmed off by adjustable skimmers and diverted to the oil collector. Sludges precipitate to the floor of the separator and are drained off through an outlet pipe.

Advantages:

  • high separation efficiency,
  • simple system with extremely reliable operation,
  • easy to clean,
  • static separation elements, practically abrasion-free.

Today fine droplet coalescence separators are used in a broad range of technical applications.

Distillate Postpurification

The solubility of liquids normally decreases with decreasing temperature. Dissolved oil for instance upon cooling precipitates out as fine free droplets. These oil droplets can be separated off by use of suitable mechanical devices. When using LOFT DESTIMAT® LE evaporators to concentrate wastewaters polluted with coolants and lubricants, our experience has shown that coalescent postpurification can reduce the residual hydrocarbon content in the distillate to approx. 5 mg/l. Collection of the light hydrocarbons separated off is expedient as they can often be sold as old oil due to their very low residual moisture content.

Bath Cleaning:

Wash baths (e.g. degreasing baths) can be kept largely free of solids/oil accumulation by use of a coalescence separator. This substantially increases the permissible number of cycles before a bath change is required and, even more importantly, effects more constant bath quality.and consistently good degreasing which equates to improved quality of the final product.
